SOCIAL NETWORKING
A social networking service is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who for example share interests, activities, backgrounds or real life connections. A social network service consists of a representation of each user (often profile), his social links, and a variety of addition services. Social networking is web-based services that allow individuals to create a public profile, create a list of users with whom to share connection and view and cross the connections within the system. Most social network services are web-based and provide means of users to interact over to Internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging. Social networking sites are varied and they incorporate new information and communication tools such as, mobile connectivity, photo/video/sharing and blogging. Online community services are sometime considered as a social network service, though in a broader sense, social network service usually means an individual-centered service whereas only community service are group-centered. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, pictures posts, activities, events, and interests with people in their network.

I.  FACE BOOK

Face book is an online social networking service. It names comes from a colloquialism for the directory given to students at some American Universities. Face book not allows anyone who claims to be at least 13 years old to become a registered user of the website. Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, and receive automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as “People From Work’’ or “Close Friends’’. As of September 2012, Face book has over one billion active users, of which approximately 9% are fake. Face book has about 180 petabytes of data per year and grows by over half a petabytes every 24 hours. Face book has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. With its availability on many mobile devices, Face book allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet.

II. LINKEDIN

One purpose of the site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of the people with whom they have some level of relationship, called ‘Connections’. Users can invite anyone to become a connection.

This list of connections can then be used in a number of ways:

(i)        A contact network is built up consisting of their direct connections, the connections of each of their connections and also the connections of second-degree connections. This can be used to gain an introduction to someone a person wishes to know through a mutual contact.
(ii)       Users can not upload their resume any more. This was a feature but became redundant in late 2012.
(iii)      It can then be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one’s contact network.
(iv)      Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates.
(v)       Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.
(vi)      Users can post their own photos and view photos of others to aid in identification.
(vii)     Users can now follow different companies and can receive notifications about the new joining and offers available.
(viii)    Users can save jobs that they would like to apply for.
(ix)      Users can “like” and “congratulate” each other’s updates and new employments.
(x)       Users can see who has visited their profile page.

III. TWITTER

Twitter is an online social networking and micro blogging service that enables users to send and read “tweets” which are text messages limited to 140 characters. Registered users can read and post tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. Users access Twitter through the website interface, SMS, or mobile device app. Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco and has offices in New York City, Boston, San Antonio and Detroit.

ELECTRONIC LEARNING (E-LEARNING)

E-learning is the delivery of a learning, training or education program by electronic means. E-learning involves the use of a computer or electronic device in some way to provide training educational or learning material.

E-learning refers to the use of internet or wireless technologies to deliver a broad array of training solutions. E-learners access the learning from computers via the internet or an intranet, or through a hand held device like a palm pilot.

E-learning is the computer and network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. E-learning applications and processes include Web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual education opportunities and digital collaboration. Content is delivered via the Internet, intranet/extranet, audio or video tape, satellite TV, and CD-ROM. It can be self-paced or instructor-led and includes media in the form of text, image, animation, streaming video and audio.

BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING

Some of the more obvious benefits of e-learning include consistency of content, ease of customization, learner control, and reduction or elimination of travel costs to attend learning events. Consistency of content is achieved by the same learning being made available to anyone, anywhere, anytime with no degradation to the quality or effectiveness of the content or presentation.

BASIC ELEMENTS OF E-LEARNING

Regardless of e-learning form and type of place where it is implemented (school, university, company, or organization), it should always consist of two basic elements:-
FIRST ELEMENT: TEACHING – that leads to getting new or improving existing knowledge, skills or professional competencies is e-learning’s main goal and characteristic. This basic goal may be reached by use of various technologies.

SECOND ELEMENT: TECHNOLOGY – if e-learning is to perform its tasks properly, it has to be based on tested and reliable solutions. Use of IT, especially computers and internet, makes it easy to organize distance learning available for students in place and time of their own choice.

EDUCATIONAL BLOG
Blog
A blog is a type of website or part of a website.  Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics of vider entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other websites.

A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to this page.  The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of blog.

Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art, photographs, (photo blog) videos (video blog), music (MP3 blog) blogging and audio (podcasting)

Micro blogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts
The term “webblog” was coined by John Barger on 17 December 1997.  The short form “blog” was coined by Peter Merholz.

Types of blog
1.        Personal blogs
2.        Corporate or organizational blogs
3.        By genre: Travel blogs
4.        By medium type: Blog
5.        By device.
Blogging is an act of posting content on a blog (a Web or online journal) posting comments on a someone else’s blog.  Blogging allows people to interact with each other.  Blogging has also become popular search engine optimization (SEO) tool because search engine like Google and Yahoo know that a blog is frequently updated with content/visitor comments.

Importance of teacher related blogs

Help to share useful information and tips among co-workers
Help to communicate with one another
Act as a support system for teachers
Recognized as useful tools in education system.
Way to communicate and enhance classroom instruction among students
Increase exposure to other students.
Way to post important information’s such as homework projects etc.

Student’s blogs
Students can also the blog to ask each other’s questions regarding a missed assignment lesson for during group projects and it also gives students an opportunity to collaborate on poetry, various writing assignments / readings. It allows the students who are shy, reserved in class to voice their opinions and have insight with a different approach.
Students express themselves. In higher education, blogs are often used as reflective journals.
The use of blogs in education gives students a global perspective.  Teachers from different state, countries and continents are able to collaborate on different projects and learning.
Learning through blogs allows students to take control of their own learning and steer it to their own needs.  Students are able to see that opinions and even strategies vary based on location and culture.
Children are different, but a common thread of learning can unite them.  The use of blogs in the classroom embeds technological literacy in children that will help them in adulthood.

CONCLUSION

Teacher education academics have indicated continuous use of e-resources. My recommendation for teacher educators is to improve the ICT s resources.  Then only the today’s teachers are to be a future e-teacher for future generation community.  Teaching is a serious task; indeed a noble profession.
